The Davis Fire has impacted many families in our community, leaving them without access to their homes, belongings, and the technology that’s crucial for staying connected. To help those in need, Sierra Pacific Credit Union is proud to announce a new partnership with the Reno Cigar Lions Club’s Computers for Kids program.
Together, we are working to collect donations of working PCs, laptops, and computer accessories to be distributed to children and families displaced by the fire. Our goal is to ensure that these families have the technology they need to continue their education while evacuated.
How You Can Help
If you have working PCs, laptops, or computer accessories that you no longer use, consider donating them to this important cause.
Donation Drop-Off Locations:
We are accepting donations at all three of our Reno branches during regular business hours:
- South Reno Branch – 6100 Neil Road, Suite 150
- Mill Street Branch – 5580 Mill Street, Suite 700
- Saint Mary’s Branch – 645 N. Arlington Ave, Suite 300
What You Can Donate:
We’re accepting the following types of donations:
- Desktop Computers (working condition)
- Laptop Computers (working condition)
- Computer accessories such as flat-panel monitors, keyboards, mice, hard drives, network equipment, cables
Please Note: We are only able to accept donations of devices that are in working condition. We do not accept donated TVs or CRT monitors (the big 1990s ones).
Computers will be professionally wiped clean of existing data, applications, and operating systems and be updated with higher security, higher privacy Linux OS and applications. This ensures the privacy and safety of both donors and recipients.
Why It Matters
For families affected by the Davis Fire, access to technology is essential. Whether it’s a child needing to attend do school work, a parent applying for relief programs, or families staying in touch with loved ones, your donation can make a real difference.
“We’re so grateful for the support of our community during this challenging time,” said Leslie Ramsdell, CEO of Sierra Pacific Credit Union. “By donating your old computer, you’re giving a displaced child or family a chance to stay connected.”
“Our Lions Club has been able to help thousands of local students access refurbished, secure, private computers in the past 17 years,” said Ira Victor, Reno Cigar Lions Board Member. “With support from community partners like Sierra Pacific Credit Union, we were able to help families access education during COVID, were granted the coveted Partners in Education (PIE) award, and are now able to support those impacted by the Davis Fire.”
