Sierra Pacific CU’s Volunteer Board of Directors

 

Each year, three positions on Sierra Pacific FCU’s volunteer Board of Directors come up for election. After initial nominations made by the Nominating Committee and the Petition period, the final nominees to the board are Don Ross (Incumbent), Matthew Helmers (Incumbent), and Frank Stanbrough (Newly Nominated). Annual Meeting Notice

Selected Board Members will be appointed at the Annual Member Meeting on September 26th, 2024. All members are invited to attend virtually or in person.

 

Nominee Biographies

 

Don Ross

Incumbent

Don has served Sierra as a Director since 2012, accumulating over a decade of knowledge, training, and experience in the complexities of credit union board membership. As a shareholder in the law firm Woodburn and Wedge, Nevada's oldest law firm, Don practices primarily in the area of estate planning. He holds an MBA from the University of Utah, a JD, cum laude from Brigham Young University, and a Master of Laws degree in taxation from the University of Florida. He is an avid outdoorsman and is active in the Boy Scouts of America and Rotary.

 

Matthew Helmers

Incumbent

Matthew has served on Sierra Pacific FCU’s Board of Directors since 2019, previously filling the Vice-Chair position. He is a two-time graduate from the University of Nevada, Reno with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and Master’s degree in business administration. He is currently employed as the Director/District Operations at Southwest Gas based in Carson City, NV. He is responsible for the Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance of the natural gas system for areas of Northern Nevada that include Carson City, Fallon, Fernley, Elko, and Winnemucca, and areas of Northern California that include Lake Tahoe and Truckee. Matthew has served as chair of the American Gas Association’s Best Practices Committee, and on the board of the American Red Cross of Northern Nevada. When he is not working, Matthew enjoys spending time on the slopes snowboarding or on a lake wake surfing with his wife Amy and son Wade.

 

Frank Stanbrough

Newly Nominated

Frank Stanbrough is Vice President/Continuous Improvement and Optimization of Southwest Gas Corporation and has served in various roles with that company since first joining in 1994. In his current position, Frank is responsible for supporting and implementing various continuous improvement and optimization initiatives. He partners with Company Officers and business leads to develop and implement the Company’s multi-year strategic playbook of continuous improvement initiatives. He is a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Insurance Advisory Committee of Energy Insurance Mutual, and the Renewable Gases Committee of the Western Energy Institute. Frank also serves as a board member and board secretary of Three Square, a Las Vegas-based charity committed to providing wholesome food to hungry people, while passionately pursuing a hunger-free community.
