*** Update: It has come to our attention there have been several cases of debti card fraud found in the Reno/Sparks are. Please take care and contact us with any concerns. ***
It has come to our attention that there have been cases of debit card fraud. It is believed that "skimming" has occurred at an unknown merchant point of sale machine and ATMs. What this means is scammers are using a machine to capture all the card information. This information can be used to create duplicate cards. It has been found that the scammers are using these fraudulent cards to withdraw various sums of money from ATM machines. Because these cards have all the data associated with the account, these funds are removed. We would like you to know that you are NOT liable for these transactions. While there have been a few fraudulent withdraws in the Northern Nevada area, these transactions are primarily taking place in California.
In order to protect our members, we have taken the following immediate actions:
- ATM daily limits have been decreased from $1000 to $500. This means you will only be able to withdraw a total of $500 at an ATM on any given day. IF you need additional funds, we would be happy to assist you at one of our three locations.
- All California ATM transactions will be suspended until March 19, 2010. This date may be pushed out further. Unfortunately, this means you will not be able to use your card at an ATM machine. You will still be able to use your card at merchants in California. In most cases, if you use your card as a PIN transaction, you will be able to get cash back.
If you feel like you have been a victim of debit card fraud, please contact the credit union immediately at 775-834-4579 so that we can take the appropriate steps to prevent any further charges. If you are a victim of fraud, we will block the card and order you a new one.
If you have any questions whatsoever, please to not hesitate to contact one of our three offices:
